Toyine Sellers collaborates with TILT, producing a new lighting collection made from bi-product

Behold a new upcycled lighting design collaboration. Working for high-end brands in New York Sellers helped create the  interiors of boutiques for Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Fendi and Dior. In 2010, after twenty years, Sellers pivoted her passion and shifted into the realms of material design.

At the same time she discovered an old atelier in France on the verge of closure. Sellers took over the  premises and enlisting a team of skilled artisans establishing her own atelier and founding the brand Toyine Sellers. The Sellers brand focuses on creating materials which are ‘individual works of art, from their creation to the final composition. Textiles should achieve more than accents within a space. When remarkably designed, they bridge art and architecture.’ says Sellers.

Their recent collaboration is with TILT (short for Things I Love Today), a Brussels-based design studio who specialise in upcycling and material reuse.

Commenting on the collaboration, Sellers says, ‘Seemingly useless materials from the atelier were repurposed and given new meaning by TILT; the resulting collection of lighting designs are functional yet sculptural, and imbued with decorative poetry.’

Located near Lyon, France, a region known for its rich weaving history, Toyine Sellers designs and manufactures bespoke fabrics alongside a range of home accessories. The atelier was created in a bid to preserve the European weaving savoir-faire, and all textiles are woven on traditional looms by a team of local artisans using the finest yarns and leathers.

Laetitia De Moor and Patrick van Roy, Co-Founders of TILT, explain, ‘Our use of colour and the reclaimed elements in our works resonated with Sellers own creative language. She asked if we’d be interested in creating new designs made with remnants found in her atelier, and soon arrived boxes full of wonders in the form of old plastic dyeing cones and tubes as well as leather offcuts. It didn’t take us long to decide what to do with them!’
